Snerting – Touch

The exhibition is based on a four-month residency at a workshop in Varanasi, India, a year ago, using materials collected there.
In India, Elsa immersed herself in the use of dyes and colors in daily life, which are a vital part of the country’s culture and self-expression.
It was an inspiring experience — a deep dive into a world where the use of color has for centuries been intertwined with nature, tradition, location, and a certain form of universal spiritual expression.

Elsa explores the possibility of color as a living being and expression, working intuitively with an open and physical process. The works in the exhibition reflect this journey and draw upon the materials and impressions collected in Varanasi, India, and in Himinbjörg, Snæfellsnes.

“I find that colors have a life of their own, energy that moves between and around us, touching the body and the senses, and forming connections that are sometimes inexplicable. The works are created from that touch — the moment when the material, color, and body meet in the here and now.”
